Transoceanic UK Successfully Handles Massive 800 Metric Ton Unit from the UAE

Transoceanic Projects UK recently completed the movement of an 800 Metric Ton Sulphate Removal Module from the Lamprell facility in Jebel Ali, UAE. The time-sensitive unit will be incorporated into an offshore platform located in the North Sea. Measuring 26 x 12 x 16m, the module required approximately 12 months to engineer and fabricate. Transoceanic was responsible for the pre-transport from the fabricator’s facility to the loading and securing operations aboard a semi-submersible vessel docked at the Port of Jebel Ali.

Moving the unit from the facility to the loadout berth was a daunting undertaking, requiring the use of 144 wheels on 2 self-propelled trailers. The module was so immense that planning was required with the local port authorities to remove road obstacles, includes signage, cabling, lamp posts as well as several sections of parameter fence to allow entry into the port area.

Upon arrival, the trailers were rolled onto a semi-submersible vessel, on which Transoceanic was responsible for the design of the grillage, which itself weighed 140 tons. The contract for the fabrication and installation of the grillage also fell under Transoceanic’s control and management. In addition, Transoceanic Projects UK also employed the services of a marine warranty survey team to oversee and approve all sea fastenings, sea calculations and forces.

Transoceanic Dubai provided local support in procuring 2 x 40’ open-top containers for the ancillary items and local packing services, along with a complex set of export process formalities.

The successful operation will place the cargo at the Heerema facility in Hartlepool, UK in May of 2005.
