Transoceanic Initiates First Major move for the Kirishi Hydro Cracker Project in Russia

In October 2003 TransOceanic was awarded a contract to handle the total project logistics of approximately 250,000 freight tons of cargo from worldwide sources for the Kirishi Hydro Cracker Complex, located 150 km from St. Petersburg, Russia. After many months of planning and preparation the first major shipment of 14,000 freight tons was successfully loaded at Masan Port, Korea.

This shipment, which included a 520 metric ton “Fractionator,” was delivered along side the vessel utilizing a multi-transporter direct from the Korean supplier. This massive unit measured 68.7m x 8.6m x 9.0m and is the single heaviest piece of equipment loaded by a vessel using its own gear at the port of Masan, Korean.

Because of tight production schedules and delivery requirements, finding the properly geared vessel at the right time was a real challenge. Transoceanic, combining its global resources, was able to meet this challenge.

The delivery of this equipment to the Kirishi jobsite will be handled by specially-equipped barges, rail wagons, and specialized trailers. The cargo will be discharged direct using the vessel’s own gear.

Transoceanic’s Dutch office is the Control Central for the project and was supported by the Korean office, which handled the loading operation in Korea.

Additional major equipment for the project will come mainly from Europe, and it is anticipated that the last shipments will take place at the end of 2007.
