Gas Chemical Complex Move Enters Final Phase

Since July of 2002, Transoceanic has been in the throes of moving the Rio Polimeros Gas Chemical Complex equipment, materials and spares from multiple international sources to Duque de Caxias, RJ, Brazil.

All U.S. cargoes were American flag impelled. Cargo moved on American flag vessels and airlines, but in order to accomplish this, full container loads had to be moved from the U.S. through Europe, while break-bulk cargoes were able to move directly from the United States to Rio de Janeiro.

Transoceanic’s responsibilities included the expediting, domestic pick- up, general forwarding, ocean freight and air freight arrangements, documentation and delivery to the site of all materials.

The project’s largest consignment consisted of a full charter totaling 1540 metric tons - 15328 cubic meters – which loaded in Masan Korea and Mumbai India, respectively. The consignments consisted of reactors, quench towers, a demethanizer, a propylene fractionator and ancillary equipment.

The largest pieces were two [2] reactors - 419 metric tons each - measuring 43 x 9.3 x 9 meters each [LxWxH]. Consignments were delivered to the vessel at Masan by trailers and Mumbai via barge, and were delivered from Rio de Janeiro to the Duque de Caxias site by barge.

Transoceanic Projects de Brazil Ltda. arranged for all services to the jobsite.

The Project Control Center was Transoceanic/Houston, with international office support given by The Netherlands, London, Italy, Japan, Korea and Dubai offices.

In addition, Transoceanic USA created a special I.T. program to facilitate documentation required by the Brazilian Customs Authorities which also increased Transoceanic’s productivity drastically. All P.O. line items are traceable through Transoceanic’s line item tracking web page “TransTrack”.

As the project ran through June 30th, 2005, all remaining small parts and supplies orders are being air-freighted and delivered directly to the jobsite.

The Presidential Inauguration of the plant was on June 23, 2005. The Ethylene Unit is commissioned, as well as all utilities, storage and plant waste systems. The building complex, which includes a restaurant and the Riopol General Administration building, are also now complete occupied.
